#BertolliMealSoups Saved Dinner!!

Bertolli Meal SoupsYou know those days when things are hectic, but you feel like “ok, I got this…” and then you realize its half an hour before your family’s dinner time and you totally forgot about DINNER?

We’ve had many of those lately.  Schedules, commitments, sick kids, sick kids again, different kids sick…allergic reactions, trips to the emergency room- they’ve kind of thrown us off kilter.  Take tonight, for example.  I’ve had a Bertolli Meal Soup in the freezer just waiting to be cooked and tasted (and I LOVE soup so I’ve been eagerly awaiting this meal).  I meant for us to have leftovers from last night’s meal.  But with a few key ingredients that I spaced out on this morning.  I got home from my Daisy girl scout meeting and realized that I didn’t have dinner plans.

I quickly made a kid-friendly meal, since my husband was out in the garage, and decided we should have a little grownup dinnertime. Let me tell you how HAPPY I was that we had a package of the Tuscan-Style Beef with Vegetables.

Veggiyana: The Dharma of Cooking

I have to admit, I sit with a glass of wine and read cookbooks on Saturday evenings.  It is relaxing for me and I love to find new recipes to try.  This book Veggiyana: The Darma of Cooking is a wonderful read. The author, Sandra Garson studied food history at Harvard and her expertise in this area really shines in this book.  It is full of great vegetarian recipes from around the world and it has so many fun facts and history lessons about the foods and where they come from.

The book begins with Sandra’s experience in Nepal and helping provide nutritious food for students at a boarding school.  She helped the students improve their energy levels and strengthen their immune systems.

About the Book

Veggiyana provides 108 tasty, beloved, and simple recipes from around the world. And generously sprinkled throughout are perfectly spiced morsels of time-tested wisdom on how to live a life that nourishes both body and spirit. Veggiyana brings the vitality of the world’s kitchens to your own with time-less wisdom and recipes to delight and inspire.

Johnson’s Natural Baby Care

johnsons naturalLiving more naturally is something that so many of us, myself included, are trying to do. I have to confess that before I had children, I wasn’t really concerned about what I put into my body or onto my body. Motherhood changed that.  In so many ways.  Where before I loved the smell of chlorine  bleach throughout my house, I suddenly felt ill at the thought of those fumes being breathed in by anyone in our family.  Over time, I changed to cloth diapers- full time…even had all 3 kids using cloth in one way or another at one time.  I made my own laundry soap.  I make my own cleaners.  We started recycling.  No more individually wrapped packages for us- I got some quality food containers and cute snack bags…reusable water bottles were the only thing I’d let into the house.   Compost?  Yes, please.  Rain barrels?  Let’s see how much rain water we can collect!  I am far from 100% natural, in fact, I stopped making my laundry soap (it didn’t work with our cloth diapers and the water in our well) but am hoping to start again now that we’re done with diapers.

One thing that’s always been kind of out-of-reach for us is natural and organic skin care products.  I would love to use all natural, all organic things across the board but it isn’t financially possible.  So I’m always glad to see when mainstream companies respond to the masses and start changing for the good.

Johnson’s Natural Baby Shampoo, Baby Lotion, and Head to Toe Foaming Baby Wash are a more natural version of a brand that’s been around for so long it’s definitely a household name, and one that many parents rely upon.  I was so happy when I heard that Johnson’s was working to include more natural elements in their product line, because we, as a family, strive to live a more natural lifestyle as a whole.  Natural and organic products are wonderful but are often cost-prohibitive to many families, including my own at times, and it isn’t an easy choice for parents (or anyone, for that matter) to have to weigh the cost before the benefits.  I love this line because it’s natural, gentle to my kids’ sensitive skin, smells wonderful, and AFFORDABLE!!

Johnson’s is a household name that has so many years of quality behind them, and they offer us a more affordable line for more natural ingredients.  I am glad that they are recognizing the need for more natural inclusion and I hope they will continue to rework their formulas in the same manner.

Johnson’s Natural line recently won the 2012 Better Homes and Gardens Best New Product Award!

NeatDesk is helping THIS mama get organized #Giveaway

neatdeskPart of my New Year’s “Resolution” is to be more organized- in terms of papers.  We have a modestly sized home without tons of storage space, and when it comes to saving copies of bills, medical receipts, bank statements, etc., there just isn’t space for it all. Having caught sight of the infomercials on TV for the NeatDesk, and hearing a few blogger friends say they wanted it, I decided I needed to see if the NeatDesk might be the answer to my problems.

I think it is.

NeatDesk is a scanner and digital filing system that intelligently organizes and secures all your important information on the PC or MAC.

Transform your workspace into a space that works.
At work or at home, NeatDesk declutters your workspace, providing a central “inbox” for all your papers—ready to scan when you are.

All-in-one scanning.
Our removable input tray can scan both sides of up to 10 receipts, 10 business cards, and 10 documents at a time—or even a single, 50-page document.

The unit itself has a small footprint, (even smaller if you get the Neat scanner) with three different slots to fit different sizes of papers to be scanned. That means it isn’t taking up a huge amount of space on the desktop or countertop.  (For those of us with small children, it also means it is quite easy to put the NeatDesk up and out of the reach of small hands…)  The different sized slots mean that you are less likely to have papers and documents get jammed in the machine.   You can also scan things in batches- which saves a lot of time in today’s busy schedules!

Once you’ve gotten your business card, document, or other paper scanned in black and white or in color, YOU get to choose how it gets categorized.  Or rather, I do.  You can choose at your house.   This is one of my favorite features- my dad used to call my way of thinking “Brett logic” and while he did have a point, and I maybe don’t think exactly like the rest of the world, my logic works for me.  The NeatDesk lets me take the things I scan and get them categorized in my own way, not to some preset way that might not work for me.

TABOO Review and Flash #Giveaway

tabooTABOO has always been a favorite game of mine.  I love it!  It’s good, clean fun, and you can get seriously silly.

TABOO is recommended for adults, but I think many kids from 8+ can play- you may have to skip a few words, but overall I think they can do it.  You have to think fast and think creatively when you aren’t able to rhyme or gesture to get someone to guess your words!  This is definitely a must-have game if you are a game night lover like me, and with over 1000 words you are sure to have many hours of fun (especially now with the Uh-Oh! Buzzer- which I won’t lie, makes me jump every.single.time!!)  Games like this are great to bring on family trips, too, or to family gatherings!

PromGirl.Net can outfit you for so many special occasions!

prom dressIt’s February, and it seems like there will be many occasions for teens to wear formalwear in the coming months. I know lots of girls I went to school with who were already shopping for their prom dresses at this point of the year, but there are so many other occasions for girls to dress to the nines!!  I have been poking around and checking out all kinds of gowns, shoes and accessories online for about half an hour two hours, amazed at the difference in what was available when I went to prom (I graduated in 1992) and now.  Obviously fashion has changed (thank goodness) but the options, oh, the options!!  It just seems like there are so many more ways to shop and so many (better) styling options- to better suit your taste, your body type and your style!!

This dress on the left is one of the ones I loved the best.  Fun and flirty but still allowing for some modesty.  I love it.  I think its darling!

Jo Totes Fashion Camera Bags #Giveaway

jo tote roseThis Valentine’s Day, I got a treat for me.  A new camera bag.  A stylish, fun, modern, feminine camera bag. I love it.  It’s one of the gorgeous, stylish and totally functional Jo Totes- the Rose bag, in Marigold.  The name alone drew me in, but look how gorgeous this bag is!  I have gone through I think 4 other camera bags since starting to use a DSLR camera, and this is by far the most stylish and functional. I’ve had pretty ones too but they don’t feel as sturdy.  I want to feel like my camera investment is protected!

The beauty of this bag kind of speaks for itself.  The functionality is awesome.  Lots of options to configure the interior (in a fun houndstooth print) to get your equipment the way you like it, roomy pockets of varying sizes.  Four adjustable pads mean lots of ways to use the interior!   You can use the handles to carry your bag or clip the shoulder strap on and keep your hands free.  This bag can also very easily be used  for other purposes when you aren’t using it for a camera bag, or give it multi function.  There is plenty of room for your camera, a spare lens, your flash, and some purse items.

Strong pockets  and very durable hardware and closures ensure that this bag investment will protect your camera equipment for a very long time, all while letting you express your individuality and fashion.  There are even metal feet to keep your bag looking its best when you set  it down.

The folks at Jo Totes set out to make fun, fashionable and functional camera bags for women.  They succeeded.  I think that their prices are GREAT, because when you invest in a DSLR camera and lenses, flash, and all of the other accessories and components you may use, you NEED to protect that investment.  Why not do it in style?   I’ve had bags that cost the same but they are boxy and boring, and totally not something that makes me happy to carry. I LOVE bags, and I really love fun bags.  The Rose bag just makes me smile!

It was really, really difficult to choose just one color.  The teal really calls out to me, too.  Not into Marigold or Teal?  The Jo Totes also come in black, raspberry, moss, sugarplum, noir floral  and chocolate.  Lots of delightful colors to suit your style!
