Being a mom of two girls, and a woman who struggled with self-esteem for much of my life, I know how important it is to help build my girls' self-esteem. I have long loved the Dove campaigns for more acceptance, and celebration of women without being perfect- and I'm glad that they have decided to include younger females in their campaigns as well. The messages we send children about their looks, their bodies- their self-esteem- those messages are long-since engrained within them by the time they are adults. Giving girls- children of both sexes, really- giving them the tools they need in order to have a good, strong self-esteem is something that we should all be focusing on. it is sad to think that 6 out of 10 girls will stop doing what they love because of body and self esteem issues. As a mother to an 8 year old I strive to make her learn to be comfortable in her own body. That looks are are not as important as the person.

I’m inspired to coach young girls and help them feel better about themselves. With 6 out of 10 girls dropping out of something they love doing because of their appearance is so sad. I want them to realize they are beautiful on the inside and outside.
