>The Old Farmers Almanac for Kids Giveaway (5 winners)

>My family has a tradition of including the Old Farmer’s Almanac for each year in Christmas stockings of husbands/dads.  I’ve continued it with my own husband.  I know he enjoys having it, and refers to it countless times throughout the year.

My husband spends a lot of time, as do I, discussing things like weather, and creatures, and trying to encourage our kids’ natural curiosities about nature and science in general.  We’ve tried to use the original Old Farmer’s Almanac but honestly, and 1, 3 and 5, its WAY over their heads.  When I heard there was a version for kids I jumped right onto the opportunity.  I was quite eager to peruse the pages of The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids (vol. 3). Not only is the almanac itself full of really neat facts, information and suggestions for activities and experiments, but they have a really neat website to go along with it which I just got distracted by (again) for almost an hour instead of writing my thoughts on it.  Go figure! Puzzles, animated calendars with clickable links, who shares this birthday…so many fun and SAFE activities to do!!

My 5 year old can read this book and grabs it often.  She does often read it to her brother (3).  I think she’s kind of disappointed that the pages aren’t pink nor are they sparkly, but hey…you can’t please everyone, right?

My three year old can’t read but absolutely loves looking at the vibrant photographs that are on just about every single page.  He’s big into sharks this week and has actually been talking to himself while falling asleep for his nap while looking at the shark pages, making up stories about the sharks he’s looking at.  I love it.  They have no idea they are actually LEARNING so much about science and geography and history and culture- but I do, and I love knowing that this is produced by a reputable company like The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids, Volume 3

Do you know . . .
Which part of its body a cricket uses to listen?

How many billion plastic bags are used around the world each year?

Why all stars are not white, and some can shrink and grow?

Find the answers to these questions and many more in The Old Farmer’s Almanac for Kids, Volume 3, which also includes. . .
“green” pages, featuring energy alternatives, a trash trail, and more

articles on stars, sports heroes, weird weather, pets that work, the history of pizza, the origin of chocolate, desert-dwelling animals, and more

how to grow a loofah sponge, create a sunflower house, or make a wind chime—plus more

I’m really looking forward to seeing what volume 4 brings of this great book- its kind of a miniature version of an encyclopedia without the boring parts and lots of fun things to reinforce what’s being taught!! This is really probably a better book (and will be enjoyed more by my own kids when they get to be a bit older) for 7+ crowd.  But if you are resourceful you can always modify it to your own children’s level and ability and have a lot of fun with it.

FIVE of my readers will win a copy of their own!
