Produced by Whistlefritz, Spanish for Kids is an award-winning Spanish immersion DVD series featuring the adorable Fritzi, a lovable, animated mouse who interacts with live-action adults and children to help teach Spanish. In Las Estaciones (The Seasons), Fritzi wants to celebrate his birthday, which comes in the Fall. With the help of his friend Maria, young viewers learn about the many joys associated with all four seasons, from sledding and snowball fights in winter (el invierno), to trick-or-treating in autumn (el otoño). It’s a year-round celebration for young viewers to enjoy with Fritzi and all his Whistlefritz friends!

This DVD has been fun for my kids to watch, they always enjoy live-action videos and are forever asking questions about “how do you say…” in Spanish/French/German, etc.  I love that this is a full on immersion experience and the folks at Whistlefritz don’t interject English translations!!  Definitely a great DVD if you want to expose your child to Spanish.  Lots of singing and dancing and fun puppets to engage them.  All THREE of my kids like this- and they are 1, 3 and 5.  (I guess they are actually 5 1/2, 3 1/2 and 1 1/2 but I’m a lady in denial).


The only drawback to Las Estaciones is that when we get to “el verano” my kids are all excited to go in “la piscina” and I am left to explain yet again that we won’t be swimming for a few more months. Its fun to watch, fun to hear, and really, the kids are learning while watching tv.  I was actually just poking around on the website for Whistlefritz and they have some WONDERFUL homeschool lessons and downloads for parents- for FREE!  Awesome.  I’m going to get a bunch and see where we can go with this.  Very exciting.
