>I’m fairly certain that whether or not you’ve actually tried Bendaroos, at this point and time, you’ve heard of them, or seen them. I have seen them I can’t tell you how many places, and on TV, and strategically placed in stores- every kind of store, it seems. Always wanted to try them, but never got around to it. So when the chance arose for me to try them with the kids, how could I say no?
We’ve had a ton of fun with our box of Bendaroos. Its hard to describe what they feel like. Almost like a firm wax around a wire, maybe? They are sticky, but don’t leave a big residue. Not sticky enough to deter from fun, I just noticed they were sticky, and hadn’t anticipated that. (I thought you should know. Some people (me) aren’t always a fan of surprise textures. Knowledge is power!)
The Bendaroos come with each color in its own bag. I like this feature (I *am* the mom who couldn’t stand letting the kids mix play-doh colors until very, very recently. It made me downright twitchy). So having these colors come in their own little bags just made my don’t-mix-up-the-colors-keep-them-separate self quite happy.
We received the 500 pack of Bendaroos. That, my friends, is a LOT of building sticks. What comes in the box? 10 traceable templates (which save This Mama, because somewhere between the creative idea in my head and the execution from my hands there’s a connection missing and I can’t always make, say, a turtle actually look remotely LIKE a turtle.)…and as far as colors?
We have been Bendaroo-ing like mad around the Bargain house. Kind of surprising to me is that my 3 year old is actually better able to manipulate the Bendaroos (or perhaps just has more patience having napped- we’ve been doing this a lot after school and Busy B is still adjusting to PM Kindergarten without a nap during the week). I am going to continue searching for the photos of our adorable Seal, Tiger, Turtle and Sun bendaroo sculptures, but don’t want to wait any longer to put this review up. A goldfish!! We also have a picture of our own little Nemo. Soon as I find them (if I find them, I’m starting to doubt I will see them again) they will be shared.
Bendaroos are great for fine motor skills. Kids need to be using their fine motor skills, and manipulating different materials is a great way to do that. They don’t even have to know they are developing fine motor skills, you can just let them think they are playing and having some fun!!
I love that these kits come with templates- as fun as it is to be creative, the first time kids use a new art medium, I think for most it can be intimidating so I like that Bendaroos thought to include some templates, and kind of start kids off slowly. I can totally see the kids getting more and more into this as they get used to manipulating the building sticks and creating their own crazy sculptures. I actually can’t wait to see what they come up with! You can see an entire gallery of creations that look absolutely nothing like what ours do, but it’ll give you a sense of the fun you can have with Bendaroos.
