>Glee Gum Candy Kits- Review & Giveaway (Safe Fun in the Sun)

>
**7/15 please note I added a way to get a great chance to win this- from me AND another blog!!**

(super cute Glee mascot)

When I contacted Glee Gum to inquire about reviewing their candy kits on my blog, I had no idea how close they are to me- right next door, in Rhode Island!!  I decided that since my kids are pretty young that gum might not be the best choice for me to review, so I opted to try a Make Your Own Chocolate Kit.

I wanted to wait until a rainy day struck to make this but since we’ve just had a 3+week bout with no rain, I pulled the candy kit out one super muggy afternoon.  The kids were, well, downright Glee-ful.  (I know, I know.  Baaaaaad joke!)  Anyway, the box says this is for ages 8+ and I can totally see why- the bowl gets super hot when you melt the cocoa butter.  However, we are used to modifying recipes in our house so that the kiddos can help so they broke up the cocoa butter, put it into the bowl, and then helped with other things afterwards.  (They aren’t joking.  I accidentally touched the bowl when I took it from the microwave and yes, it does get super hot.  Just so you know.).

You can see the little thermometer they give you to stick on your dish.  It took about 12 minutes for the chocolate to cool to 94 degrees.  While it was cooling the kids set out the little paper cups/wrappers for the candies.

If you look to the right of the instructions, you can see the 2 cacao beans Glee puts in the kits- the kids did NOT believe me that this is where chocolate comes from.  ”Mommy, STOP it RIGHT NOW!!” They thought I was trying to trick them into eating new beans.

Here is the sad part of my review.  I can’t find the pictures I took of the finished candies (and of course, hubby and I the kids have long since devoured them all…) but let me tell you- SCRUMPTIOUS.  I’m not even a fan of dark chocolate and this was some yummy chocolate.  The kids and I thought it was so fun to make our very own chocolates!!

Since my kids are littler, and this chocolate is a good, solid candy when you are done- I put some of it into a ziploc and gave the kids their tiny rolling pins, and let them break up the pieces, and they put it onto some ice cream for a special treat that night.  BIG hit!!
